Get to know me
Hi there! Behnoud, a graduate of computer science at the University of New Mexico. I am finishing my master's degree by May 2025.
About my history, I was born in Tehran, Iran on November 16, 1997. Since my childhood, I have had a good talent for drawing different objects and also people's faces (portraits) but mostly, I was focused on math and physics during my school years till Pre-University. Although my background was in math and physics, I chose architecture because of my good ability to draw and imagine different shapes in 3D which was essential for architects.
During my first semesters in my bachelor's of architecture, despite my good ability at drawing and doing architectural things, I lost my interest for continuing architecture. However, I could find perfect professors at Islamic Azad University who inspired me and made me interested in architecture more than before and I passed all courses successfully with good grades and was a great team member for my teammates in group projects. After my graduation, I met some famous architects of Iran and had some collaboration with them till before my immigration to United States.
My Journey
In 2021, I applied for the M.Arch program at the University of New Mexico and fortunately, I got admission for this program for Spring 2022. After finishing my first semester of architecture at UNM, I found out that I was still interested in math and since I had the opportunity of changing major in the US which was not provided in Iran, I decided to change my major from architecture to computer science and I got admission of masters of computer science at UNM for Fall 2022. Although I knew it would be a big change and I would have many challenges, I preferred to embrace this risk and study a major that is both my interest and also has good job and research opportunities in the US (it was before ChatGPT which can be considered as AI revolution). With my high effort and good collaborations with professors and their assigned TAs of my courses, I could pass them successfully and learned a lot that I am confident to get a cs job or work as a research assistant. I have been assigned as TA for two courses which helped me to enhance my knowledge and teaching skills a lot.
My Inspiration
I believe that how much AI can have progress, it is not possible that AI can be replaced with all cs related jobs because of two reasons. First, humans are controlling robots so we must be one step further than machines, and second, creativity is only for humans and it can't be replaced with any robot. Each problem can be solved in different ways which is the result of creativity and it is essential for the progress of society.
